2024 Day 50 – Leviticus 19-21
God sent thru Moses to His people a command on the attitude they should have toward their neighbor. “You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19:18) In Jesus’ sermon on the mount He also tells us to love our neighbor, but He adds a little more. “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:43-44) Paul quotes from Proverbs with actions we should take toward those enemies. To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” (Romans 12:20) Showing love toward someone who does not treat us well is not easy, but it shows the heart of a true Christian.
